Juan Piñón

Juan Piñón (New York University) is an Associate Professor from the Media, Culture and Communication Academic Department at the New York University (NYU), and currently is the U.S. Coordinator before OBITEL. Juan’s particularly interested in the intersection of Latin American transnational media corporate dynamics with the established mode of production of U.S. Latino media and the effects on Latinos’ representations. Piñón’s work experience dates back to the early eighties, when he first worked as a television producer in Mexico City, to become later the Manager of Programming and Production at a regional television channel in Chihuahua, Mexico. Since 2007, he holds a position as Assistant Professor at NYU. His previous experience in academic institutions includes working as a Professor at the Department of Communication from 1994 to 2002 at the Monterrey Tech, Mexico City Campus, where he also worked as Media Center Directo from 1997 to 2003. He holds a Ph. D. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master’s degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana at Mexico City.
